Candles have a good deal of historic significance when it comes to Christmas time. During medieval times, people used to place candles in the trees as reminders that the dark winter will not last forever. In the Christian religion, the candle symbolizes life and renewal. The practice of placing candles in the trees is where the idea for the Christmas tree originated.
Carolers often used Christmas candles to light their way through the dark streets at night. Candles also helped carolers to keep warm while they were singing during cold night. The tradition of Christmas caroling still lives on today. Many carolers still carry candles, only now it is usually done for aesthetic purposes. Candles used for caroling are usually long, tapered candlesticks with small dished attached to the bottom of the to collect wax.
